Obituary of Eleanor Tyson Young

Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eleanor Tyson Young (nee Ebert), age 82 years, died November 20 at her home in Pitman. Born in Woodbury, she was raised in the Grenloch section of Washington Twp., along with her twin brother Richard Ebert M.D. and older brother John Ebert. She graduated from Glassboro High School in 1956 and Green Mountain College in Poutney, VT in 1958. She then attended Glassboro State Teachers College and graduated in 1960 with a Liberal Arts degree and was qualified as a teacher in the State of New Jersey. She was an elementary school teacher in Red Bank for several years and tutored many children in the Pitman Public School System. She married D. Russell Young, Jr. in 1968. Eleanor loved her children, cooking, genealogy, antiquing and travel. She traveled all over with the "K.S.U." Group all over the United States and Europe. She traveled to England as a tourist but also to meet her pen pal with whom she had been corresponding since she was 12 years old. She enjoyed the Calgary Stampede on a trip to Canada, Octoberfest in Germany, and the wedding of her nephew in Greece. Along with her husband, they explored the back roads of South Jersey in their MG. Summers were spent in Ocean City with her children and grandchildren and at the camper in Strathmere, just 88 steps from the beach. She had a soft spot for animals from her cat (Kitty), to a string of pugs, and would send anonymous letters to the SPCA if she thought an animal was being abused. Her current dog, Mugs, was adopted from the Clayton Animal Shelter over the strong (and useless) objections of her husband. But always her favorite past time was managing Russell! She was an active member of P.E.O. (a women's Philanthropic Education Organization) and the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution), and the First Presbyterian Church of Grenloch. Predeceased by her brothers Richard and John Ebert. Survived by her husband of 52 years, D. Russell Young, Esq., daughters Alison (Tad) Derenberger and Meredith Young, grandchildren; Tad Jr., Tess, Thomas, and Tyson Derenberger, and Katherine, Claudia, Gabrielle, and Isabel Young-Severson. Funeral services will be private. Friends are invited to Hillcrest Memorial Park, 500 Delsea Dr., Sewell, NJ, on Saturday, Nov. 28 at noon for a graveside service. Those desiring may make contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of Grenloch, P.O. Box 8, Grenloch, NJ 08032. Memories may be shared at www.kelleyfhpitman.com. Arrangements by the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME.
