Obituary of James H. Davis

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James Henry Davis, age 87, went home to be with his Savior on January 14, 2022. Born in Martinsville, Virginia, Jim graduated from Newport News High School. He went on to earn his degree as a Reverend at Eastern Pilgrim College. It was there that he met his beloved wife of 65 years, Beverly. Together, they served in the pastorate full time for 15 years, and continued part time until late in life. Jim continued his education at Glassboro State College, earning his Master's Degree in education and certification in administration. From 1969 to 1971, he was a Learning Disability Specialist in the Paulsboro School System. In 1972, he took a position as Principal of Aura school, later becoming the Superintendent of the Elk Township district. After he retired, Jim enjoyed many activities from fishing with his children and their spouses in Strathmere boat rides through Mystic Island and most notably traveling across the country with Beverly. He served as an active member of the Richwood United Methodist Church where he loved singing in the choir and actively serving there with Beverly. Jim dedicated the majority of his career to helping children, but none were more important to him than his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had many titles throughout his career but was most proud to be called "Pop". He has left behind a rich legacy for his family as his love for God has pointed all of us in the direction of living a Godly life. His unending protection for his family, love and generosity along with his ability to be slow to speak and quick to listen will be missed by all. He is survived by his daughters Kathy (Joseph) Drissel, Susan (Scott) Donaldson, Amy Davis, grandchildren Ryan (Marcela) Drissel, Samuel Drissel, James (Stephanie) Donaldson, Emily (Jeff) Smith, Joshua McCraw, Abel McCraw, and great grandchildren: Alec, Derek, Dominic, Gabriela, Isabela, Avery, Wyatt, and Jamie. Friends may greet the family from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 at Richwood United Methodist Church, 104 Richwood Road, Richwood, NJ 08074. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richwood United Church Building Fund.
