Obituary of Angela M. Kirkpatrick

Angela M. Kirkpatrick January 16, 1942 – January 23, 2023 It is with deep sadness that my sister Andrea and I share with you the passing of our mother Angela Magazzu Kirkpatrick. Angela went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 23, 2023, just 8 days after her 81st birthday. The daughter of Pietro Andrea` and Laura Mae Magazzu, Angela was born and raised in Hazelton Pennsylvania, along with her 3 brothers, Peter, Ronnie, and Andy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Lewis Kirkpatrick III. After Angela and Lew married, they lived in Glassboro until moving to their farm in Monroeville, NJ. In recent years she had moved to Virginia, where she resided until her passing. Her college studies began at Bloomsburg University, then continued to Albert Einstein Medical Center School of Nursing, and finally completing her Bachelor of Science degree at Glassboro State College, the now Rowan University. Angela's extensive professional nursing career spanned over 40 years where she was devoted to the care of others. Providing care in the southern New Jersey region her service included ER Nurse, ICU Nurse, Nursing Instructor, Nursing Supervisor, Director of Nursing, Private Nurse homecare, and School Nurse for the Glassboro, Bridgeton and Millville school districts. After retiring from nursing, she enjoyed driving a school bus for children with disabilities. Whether young or old it didn't matter, Angela's calling, and commitment was to being a nurse, and caring for people. While living in NJ, she was an active member of the Barnsboro United Methodist Church in Barnsboro, and the Springs of Life Christian Center in Mullica Hill. In the latter part of 1970 and early part of 1980, she spent several years actively involved in the King's Crusaders, a singing youth gospel group with whom her daughters were members. The King's Crusaders traveled around the tri-state area sharing the gospel message through the Word, worship music, and testimony to many United Methodist Church congregations. When it came time for Angela to be the recipient of care in her final days there was no fiercer advocate than Andrea who made sure our mother's passing was dignified, respectful, peaceful, and loving. But most importantly Andrea surrounded Angela with the love of God. In her final hours, while at her bedside, Andrea was with our mother and played a steady stream of Christian music and favorite hymns. In her last 48 hours on earth, we had clergy in and out of her room to pray for Angela, for us and her extended family. In her final hour Angela continued to be prayed over and we know that as she passed into the arms of the Lord, she did it in peace and love. Angela is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura Mae and Kerry Slater of NY; by her daughter and grandson, Andrea Stevenson-Hardin and Ricky Hardin of NJ; by her brothers and their wives, Peter and Mary Magazzu; Ronald and Marsha Magazzu; and Andrew and Anne Marie Magazzu. She is also survived by all her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and granddogs.
