Obituary of Shirley E. Colgate

Shirley E. Colgate (Acker), age 87, passed peacefully on June 23, 2023 at her home in Washington Township. Shirley was raised in Haddonfield and graduated from Haddonfield High School in 1954. She worked as a server in the food industry bringing smiles to people's faces all her life. Shirley enjoyed spending her free time in Ocean City and was a professional "yard saler" who could bargain with the best of them. She was also devoted to Padre Pio and would visit his shrine in Vineland often. Her "Pray, Hope and Don't Worry" bracelet was a staple in her wardrobe. She was predeceased by her husband Everett W. Colgate and brother Joseph Acker. Survived by her children Steven Colgate, Constance (the late Blaine) Miller, James (Sharon) Colgate, Michael (Diane) Colgate, grandchildren Meghan (Tom) Bourquin, Brenton (Gabrielle) Miller, Jacolyn Vasil, Christopher (Lily) Colgate, Zachary (Rissa) Colgate, Nathaniel (Mel) Colgate, Adam Colgate, Dylan (Pam) Colgate, Casey (CJ) Colgate, 11 great grandchildren Travis, Alaina, Asher, Gracie, June Bug, Brielle, Blaine, Isla, Birdie, Callum, and Weston and siblings Harry Acker (the late Mary Lou) Paul (Janet) Acker, John (Betty) Acker. 1936 - 2023 Shirley's "dash" was beautiful and memorable and full of love. She touched hundreds of lives and made countless people smile every day. The amount of time she spent earth side was a blessing to everyone who knew her. To honor her, take a moment and think about your "dash" and make the most of every minute of it. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
