Obituary of Joseph "Guiseppe" Scaffidi

Joseph (Guiseppe) Scaffidi passed away on Wednesday, July 26 at the age of 98. He departed peacefully and at home watching his favorite sports team, the Phillies. Joseph was born and raised in Sicily in 1925. Joe began his career as a barber at the age of 14. In 1950, Joe came to the United States a year after his wife Maria came as an American citizen. He continued his career as a barber, eventually owning and operating J & J Hairstyling, a family business in Pitman, retiring at the age of 80. Joe loved his family very much, especially his 6 grandchildren & 10 great grandchildren. He enjoyed following his children and grandchildren through their posts on Facebook using his iPad and was fascinated communicating with his nephews and nieces in Sicily/Italy. Joe also loved good food, cooking for himself everyday and having a glass of wine or beer at each meal. He was a master at cooking, enjoyed gardening, watching sports, going to the shore and most importantly being with his family. Joe was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Bridget's Churches and St. Anthony's Mutual Society in Glassboro. He was also a member of the New Jersey Master Barber's Association. He was predeceased by his wife Maria (Spinella) and many beloved family members. He is survived by his son Joseph Jr. (Kathie), daughter Linda (Bryan) Highley, grandchildren Jennifer (Michael) Grassel, Ryan (Katelyn) Scaffidi, Ashley (David) PIerce, Amanda (Dustin) Starn, Alyssa (Michael) Romanelli, Bryan Jr. (Fiancé Victoria) Highley and great grandchildren Kailie, Chase, Benjamin, Luke, Leah, Dawson, Colton, Brielle, Makenna, Dylan and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Friends may greet the family on Monday, August 7, from 9-10:30am in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral Mass will be at 11am in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 500 Greentree Rd, Glassboro, NJ. Interment will be at St. Bridget's Cemetery in Glassboro. Those desiring may make a contribution to their favorite charity in his honor.
