Obituary of Robert M. Shoemaker Jr.

Robert M. Shoemaker Jr., age 78, died on September 4, 2023. Raised in Pitman, Bob graduated from Pitman High School in 1963 and lived in Pitman all his life. Bob worked with Robert M. Shoemaker and Sons Builders for many years. He was a self-employed contractor before working for the Borough of Pitman as Parks Superintendent for Alcyon Lake Park for 10 years. Bob served as an Exempt Fireman for Pitman Fire Company #1 serving as Assistant Chief and Chief. He was a volunteer for the Pitman Ambulance Association, and served as Emergency Management Coordinator in Pitman. Bob was also an active volunteer with the Pitman Police Department helping to facilitate anything such as road closures or organizing volunteers. When his children were young, Bob volunteered as a little and minor league baseball coach and volunteered with the Pitman midget football program. Bob truly loved Pitman. Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed his many hunting trips to Kentucky. He was predeceased by his parents Cora (Gwin) and Robert M. Shoemaker Sr. and his brother Gene "Beanie" Shoemaker. Survived by his children Sandy Shoemaker-Scott (Scott), Wade Shoemaker (Peggy), Joe Shoemaker (Lisa) and granddaughters Breanna and Carlee Shoemaker. Friends may greet the family 6-8pm on Thursday and 10-11am on Friday in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral service will be Friday at 11am. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park.
