Obituary of Edith Kershaw

Please share a memory of Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edith Kershaw, 89 Edith (Hinkle) Kershaw, of Walnut, died peacefully at home on Thursday, August 23, 2012. She was 89 years old. Edith was born and raised in New Jersey and moved to California with her husband and family in 1965. She had lived all over the state, from San Diego to Lompoc, as well as 2 years abroad in Hanau, Germany, before settling in Huntington Beach in 1989. She moved to Walnut in 2010. Edith married the late F. Arthur (Art) Kershaw in 1945 in Biloxi, MS while Art was serving in the US Army Air Force during WWII. Their union produced four children: Dean, Donna, Doug, and Diane. All of whom were present at her death. Edith is best known for her quick wit, sense of humor, fondness for crossword puzzles, and "junking". She could never pass up a good bargain. In her later years she enjoyed infrequent trips to local gambling casinos where she would spend her time playing the slots. Edith was known as "Mom-mom" by her grandkids and extended family ... and as "Sis" by her brothers and sisters. She is survived by two of her five siblings, her sister Virginia (Ginny) Constantine (Aurora, Oregon) and her brother Frank Hinkle (La Mesa, California), as well as 4 children, 7 grand-children, 13 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Art Kershaw, and her brothers Russ and Jack Hinkle. Edith leaves a legacy of kindliness, thoughtfulness, and all round good humor. She was pleasant to be around, determined, and sometimes stubborn she maintained a life balance envied by her friends and family. She was completely unpretentious and frugal. What you saw was what you got. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Avenue, Pitman, where family and friends may call from 12:00 to 1:00 pm for visitation. The Reverend John Hinkle will officiate. Interment private with close family. In lieu of flowers, Edith would want you to spend the money on your own family and think pleasant thoughts about her. She would want to be remembered as being her own woman ... a strong willed role model for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
