Cecil Abbott Nesbit Long time Pitman resident Cecil Abbott Nesbit, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 18, 2007 in her home. Cecil was born on August 17, 1927, to Israel and Clara Abbott of Yeadon, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Yeadon High School and attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She married Robert E. Nesbit on March 31, 1950, in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They settled in Pitman, New Jersey in 1954. During their almost 50 years together, Robert and Cecil enjoyed raising their family, supporting their grandchildren, contributing and giving service to their neighborhood, community and church. Cecil was a partner, along side of her husband at the Jefferson Printing Company, Inc. in Glassboro, New Jersey for over 25 years. Both she and Robert served as volunteer observers for the Ground Observation Corps (the nations first air attack warning system) during the 1950s. Cecil served as president of the Kindle elementary school PTA in the 1960s. She worked tirelessly as a leader and member of Pitman congregation of the LDS Church for over 45 years. At different times, serving as president of the Childrens, Young Women's and Women's auxiliaries, Sunday School teacher and numerous other positions. Her years of giving compassionate service earned her many grateful friends who shall miss her dearly. Cecil and Robert served 18 months as full-time missionaries for the Church in Palmyra, New York 1997-1998. In addition to her parents, Cecil was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; brother, Lloyd Abbott, and mother in-law, Elizabeth Fordyce. She is survived by her sister, Helen Shurtliff; children: David I Nesbit (Tupou Iongi) of Palmyra, Virginia; Richard B. Nesbit (Jane Roesler) of Gainesville, Florida; Robin AhPing (Miti) of Glassboro, New Jersey; Susan L. Westfall (Charles) of Gainesville, Florida; Sandy L. Money (Alan) of Phoenix, Arizona; Carol L. Johnson (Dean) of Ocala, Florida; and R. Scott Nesbit (Colleen Coles) of Pitman, New Jersey; 30 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Her most important legacy is her family. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Cecils memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel and her interment will be at Gravel Hill Cemetery in North Londonderry Township, Pennsylvania.
