Stephen Arthur Mullen, age 64, died on January 24, 2008. Born in Philadelphia, he was raised in Pitman. He attended school in Pitman until transferring to the Milton Hershey High School where he graduated in 1963. After serving 4 years in the Air Force in Vietnam, Steve entered the Coast Guard Reserves in Cape May. During his 34 years in the Reserves, he served on the Atlantic Strike Task Force at Fort Dix and worked on a Task Force for the clean up of the World Trade Center from 2001-2003. Steve worked for Hungerford and Terry as a Troubleshooter, retiring after 31 years. He was an exempt member of the NJ State Fireman's Assn. He was a member of Pitman Fire Co. #1 for 48 years where he started at age 16 as a Junior Fireman. For over 18 years he served as the Fire Co. Rescue Captain. He was one of the charter members of the Volunteer Pitman Ambulance Assn where he was an EMT for 35 years. He was also a member of the Pitman Lodge #197 F&AM. Steve enjoyed his hometown of Pitman. He was always available to lend a helping hand and tell stories about anything. He loved animals and was an avid camper and historian. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Catherine E. (nee Watson), son Kenneth S. (Stacy) of Pitman, daughter Susan E. Mullen of Pitman, grandchildren Edward, Stephanie, Harry, Kimberly, step grandson Shawn, brother Donald (Lorraine) of North Jersey and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Tuesday after 7 PM and Wednesday after 10 AM in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral service Wednesday 11 AM. Interment Eglington Cemetery.
