Obituary of Katherine Dickson

Please share a memory of Katherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Katherine Marker Dickson, passed away on January 24, 2013, at the age of 91 in Pitman, New Jersey. "Kappie" went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She lived a life wrapped in the love of Jesus. Kappie would have us remember one thing: know Jesus, live, walk, trust and rest in Him. Her family and friends cherish the memories of her faithful love for all, which was rooted in Jesus' faithful love for her. She was born on May 3, 1921 in El Paso, Texas, and was the second of four daughters of Carl and Bessie Marker. Kappie grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, then went on the graduate from Stephen's Junior college in Missouri. Before continuing her education at Columbia University on New York City with a degree in Physical Therapy, she served our country in the Women's Auxiliary Corps during World War II. The polio epidemic was in progress, and she used her skills and gift of compassion to help children recovering from this disease, first in Illinois, then in San Diego, CA. It was here in San Diego, that Kappie met her soon-to-be Navy husband, Burt. They were married in Haiti in 1956, then moved to Medford, NJ where they raised their family and lived for many years. In her later years, Kappie enjoyed living in Pitman, NJ around the corner from her son, Marc, and his family. Of the things that mattered most to Kappie, her relationship with God, her family and her friends, were dearest to her heart. She had many close and loving relationships, and a special bond with each of her six grandchildren. Her bible was worn thin, but more importantly, she lived out its principles in a life of sacrificial love, kindness, and compassion to all who knew her. Humility, joy, and always putting others before herself characterized her life, even going on a missions trip to Argentina in her seventies. Kappie is survived by her beloved children, Marc Dickson and his wife Anne, of Pitman, NJ, and Mollie Dickson McGeever and her husband, Mark of Annapolis, MD; her six grandchildren; Christian, Matthew and Luke Dickson, and Megan, Stacie, and Benjamin McGeever; and two sisters Adah Marker and Grace Rice. Kappie was predeceased in death her dear husband, Burt P. Dickson, who died in 1988, and sister Marian Chandler. Friends may join the family for a celebration of Kappie's life, at her Memorial Service and reception, this February 1, 2013 at 11:00am at Shawnee Baptist Church, 303 Oakshade Road, Shamong, NJ 08088. A lunch reception will be provided. A private burial service for the family will be held following the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shawnee Baptist church, 303 Oakshade Road, Shamong, NJ 08088, where Kappie was an active member for many years.
