Gwyneth P. Black (nee Purtell) of Pitman, NJ, died November 28 at Cooper Medical Center at the age of 82. Born and raised in Pitman, she graduated from Pitman High School in 1943 then worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Philadelphia for 10 years. Having lived in Pitman her entire life, she was a member of the Pitman United Methodist Church for 71 years, serving as Kindergarten Sunday School teacher for 25 years, president of the United Methodist Women, Chair of the Altar Guild, and longtime member of the Wesleyann Circle. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #57 Pitman, for over 50 years. She served as President of the Pitman Manor Auxiliary. Predeceased by her daughter Bonnie Lee, brothers Melvin and Joseph Purtell. Survived by her husband of 56 years, George S. Black, daughters Margaret G. Nelson (Dennis) of Phoenix, AZ, Kathleen M. Black of Claremont, CA, Jennifer Andrade (Raul) of Glassboro, Georgia Black (Glenn) of Honeybrook, PA, grandchildren Daniel and Shylar Nelson, Taramin, Tanner and Aubrey Stuber, and Jeremy Andrade, and sister Jean MacGeorge. Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 PM and Friday from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Pitman United Methodist Church, 758 N. Broadway, Pitman, NJ. Eastern Star service at 8 PM on Thursday.
