Obituary of Edward L. Gretkowski

Edward L. Gretkowski, age 76, died peacefully at his home on Dec. 23, while surrounded by family, following a short illness. Ed was born in Jersey City, NJ on March 21, 1932 to John and Helen Gretkowski. He attended Ferris High School and served in the US Army during the Korean War. For the past 45 years, he lived in Pitman, NJ where he raised his family. Kind hearted giving loved socializing with friends and family and avid coupon shopper. Ed was married for more than 50 years to his loving wife Joanna ("Joannie" Formanek). He was proud father of 6 children Caren Kirschner (John), Lauren Garten (John), Robert Gretkowski (Donna), Kristen Walton (James), Ellen Gallagher (Michael), and Alisen Gouert (Terry). Even Prouder Pop-Pop of 9 grandchildren, Karissa and Derek Gretkowski, Shea and Sydney Walton, Rylee and Avaree Gallagher, and Kylie, Kacie, and Ryan Kirschner. Ed is also survived by one brother, Henry of Vermont, one sister, Catherine of North Jersey, and predeceased by brother Adam. Ed was the Treasurer of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Usher at Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church. He loved to travel and enjoyed multiple visits to Europe. He loved to read and watch old movies and was well known in the local supermarkets. He was a retiree of John Hancock Mutual Insurance Co. His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 27 at 11AM in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Pitman Ave., Pitman, where friends and family may visit starting at 9AM. Interment immediately following at Gloucester County Memorial Veteran's Cemetery, Williamstown, NJ.
