Ken Bensen was a fortunate man. He had a long life of 91 years and along with his loving wife Ruth, raised a wonderful family. He had three children, Kenny Ritchie, Roger and their youngest, Lorraine. He and the family spent their early years in Brooklyn New York in a Norwegian section of town. Family was always important to him. In these early years Ken and his family shared a home with his parents. This reinforced the already strong family ties.
New job prospects brought the family to south eastern Pennsylvania in the early 1960's. The kids remember Dad leaving for work each day rarely missing any time from the office. He had a great work ethic and set an excellent example for his children. His philosophy was take care of the family first. Do what was necessary to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.
Yes, he took time to enjoy life as well. He was an avid bowler and golfer and a member of Edgemont Country Club in Pennsylvania and the Eagles Nest in Deptford New Jersey for many years.
Fate allowed him to retire at the early age of 62. Yes, he was retired for almost 30 years. Most of those years were good to Ken and Ruth Bensen. They traveled, enjoyed dining out and visiting their children and grand kids. Family was always important to them.
When Ruth became ill, Ken was at her side taking care of her. The importance of family was truly evident during those few years until Ruth's passing.
Although it was difficult for Ken after Ruth's death he eventually made many news friends and maintained older friendships at the Washington Twp. Senior Center. He was a member there for years. A steady, reliable player at the poker table until much later in life when age prohibited him from continuing to go.
Like most people he had to deal with the ups and downs of life. Thankfully he had more ups than downs and when he had to deal with the downs, he did so gracefully.
It is this Kenneth Baldwin Bensen, alias Pop Pop, that his grandchildren and great grandchildren should remember. The gracious, kind man who loved them.
Ken, be at peace with Ruth and the rest of your family and friends. You'll find them in the little Norwegian section in heaven.

I remember Ken and Dot sitting together on the sofa at the Post House. He would always speak to me whenever I came to see my mother, Delphia Williams.
Ken was a quiet person that never complained.
