George B. Traub, age 87, passed away July 19. Born April 22, 1921, in Luzerne, PA, he was a resident of Pitman and Sewell, before moving to Virtua Health and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin, NJ, six years ago. He was married to Ethel Thompson for over 52 years before she passed away in 1997. Survived by his children William C. of Charlotte, NC, Thomas W., of Williamstown, NJ, and Susan M. Jones of Long Beach, CA, his sister Florence Matyas of Hanover Township, PA, and 8 grandchildren, William Jr. and Dietrich; Larisa and Melanie; Charles, Rebecca, Stephen, and Michael Jones. A veteran of World War II, he served aboard the naval aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. George taught industrial arts/metal shop at Pitman and Pennsville High Schools for approx. 40 years. He received his Master's degree in Education from Rowan University. Following his retirement from teaching, he worked at Norden-Andbro in Pitman for several years. George was active in his local church and taught Sunday School for many years. He was heavily involved in prison ministry both locally in South Jersey and nationally for over 50 years. He delighted to tell prisoners about his faith in Christ and share in their struggles and needs. Even while an amputee in the nursing home, George kept active in prison ministry by correcting Bible correspondence course lessons of prisoners. His life was characterized by his faith in Jesus Christ and his love for the Word of God. The family wants to extend a special note of appreciation to the care givers at Virtua Health and Rehab. Center in Berlin for providing tender and loving care to our father for the years of his stay. They went above and beyond what was expected, to provide a caring environment for him. Thank you. Family and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday after 7 PM and Friday after 10 AM in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave., Pitman, NJ.
