Robert E. Stafford of Pitman, NJ, age 82 years, died July 30th at home. Born and raised in Yonkers, NY, of Irish immigrant parents, he moved to Northern NY state where he was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School and was president of the Class of 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy and attended Champlain College in Plattsburgh, NY. He began employment with the Scott Paper Company at Fort Edward, NY in 1950 and continued his employment with Scott in Phila., PA as a Packaging Engineer until his retirement in 1988. Bob was a member of Kiwanis, and a past president, he also served on the Pitman Borough Council from 1972 to 1974. He was a member of the Pitman United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marlene K. (nee Knapp), children David (Karen) of Mullica Hill, Thomas (Maryann) of Pittsgrove, Brian (Diane) of Pitman, and Jane Stafford of Aiken, SC, grandchildren Geoff, Laura (Steven) Kestel, Jessica, Ann, Joe, Erin, Michelle, and Eric, and his brother John of FL. He is predeceased by parents Benjamin and Violet and brothers Harold and Roland. Bob thoroughly enjoyed attending and supporting the activities of his children and grandchildren. Throughout his life, and especially in retirement, he frequently played golf with his family and friends. To those who knew him, he was a complete gentleman who loved his family, believed in his country, never wavered in his faith in God, and believed in the goodness of mankind. Friends may call on Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ and Wednesday from 10 to 11 AM in the Pitman United Methodist Church, Broadway and Lambs Rd., Pitman, NJ.
