Obituary of Robert William Blom

Robert (Bob) William Blom, age 88, entered eternal life on?February 18, 2013?at?Pitman Manor?in?Pitman, New Jersey. He?was born on?February 25, 1924?in Long Branch, New Jersey to?William and Linnea Blom.? Bob?grew up in?Nutley, New Jersey and Worcester, Massachusetts. He graduated from?North High School and attended Clark University in?Worcester, Massachusetts .?He was a WWII Naval veteran and served proudly on the USS Stern 187. Upon leaving the military he worked in New Jersey as an engineer for DuMont, Kearfott/Singer and retired from Lockheed Martin. He was actively involved for many years with ARC of Bergen/Passaic County and served as a past president of the unit. Bob also taught Sunday School and served as Sunday School Superintendent at the Butler United Methodist Church, volunteered for 21 years with RSVP of Ocean County, was a member and past president of Ocean Nature and Conservation Society, and volunteered at Pitman Manor where he loved playing his harmonica for the residents. Bob is survived by his loving wife Doris of 65 years, his daughters Linnea Knecht (Peter) of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Robin Rossbach (Kevin) of Abingdon, Maryland, and Jill Kane (Thomas) of Wayne, New Jersey, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Donald Blom of Enid, Oklahoma and sister Karin Blom Larson of Harwichport, Massachusetts and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Kristofer and brother Ernest Blom. A Memorial service will be held at Pitman United Methodist Church, 758 N. Broadway, Pitman, New Jersey at 10:00 am, Saturday, March 9, 2013 with a luncheon immediately following. A brief military service will be held following the luncheon at Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Monroe Township, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the United Methodist Homes of NJ, 535 N. Oak Ave., Pitman, New Jersey 08071. Memories may be shared at www.kelleyfhpitman.com.
