Jeanne M. Hammell (nee Davis), age 88 years died on December 19, 2009 at the Pitman Manor. Born in Honolulu, HI, she graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1941 and moved to Pitman in 1951. She was an active member of the Pitman United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ellen Usinger Sunday School Class, the choir and the United Methodist Women. She was a founding member of the Song Spinners Choral Group. Jeanne was active with the Gloucester County Historical Society and published several books with them. From 1956-1960 she was involved with humanitarian work with Hungarian Refugees via the American Friends Service Committee. Jeanne also transported meals for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed swimming at the YMCA and was an avid artist, painter and gardener. She was the wife of the late Harry C. Survived by children Robert J. of Naragansett, RI, Harriett B. of Jacksonville, FL, brother Bertram E. Davis of Cape Elizabeth, ME, grandchildren Dawn Burkey, James Andrew Hammell and two great grandchildren Ethan Burkey and Connor James Hammell. Friends may call on Wednesday 9-10:15am in the Pitman United Methodist Church, 758 N. Broadway, Pitman, NJ 08071. Funeral service 10:30am. Interment Eglington Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the church memorial fund at the above address or to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Rd., Marlton, NJ 08034.
