Kenneth L. Byers, age 85 died on February 11, 2010. Ken enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was promoted to Master Sergeant in December of 1943 at the age of 19. He served his country through the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring in July of 1969 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Ken was extremely proud to serve his country and relished the time in the Marine Corps. Ken was also very active in youth sports in Pitman, umpiring and coaching Little League and Junior League, where he coached National to three straight championships. He was an extremely loving, caring , and selfless person who always approached life with a sense of humility. He adored his wife of 62 years, Geraldine, his children, and grandchildren. He would always put his family first. To the very end, he would always ask his children and grandchildren, "Is there anything I can do for you?" Ken is pre-deceased by his wife Geraldine and daughter Katherine. He is survived by daughter Martha and son Jim of Miami Florida, son Pete of Pitman, and grandchildren Stacy, Jaimie, Amanda, and Ken. Friends may call on Wednesday after 10am in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral service will be at 11am. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park.
