Carl O. Simpson of Pitman, age 88, peacefully passed away on March 23 at Samaritan Hospice in Mount Holly. Born in Philadelphia, Carl was a patriotic World War II Veteran. He proudly served his country as a Master Sergeant in the 2126 Army Air Force Unit stationed in the South Pacific. He met his Australian bride during the war, and they eventually settled in New Jersey. They have been married for 68 years. Carl will be remembered as a hard working man who came from a generation that believed a strong work ethic was important for your family and country. Carl was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Mullica Hill and he had been a dedicated volunteer at Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury. Being an avid sports fan, he always enjoyed a good Phillies' or Eagles' game or chatting about the latest basketball game with his daughter. Carl was a member of the South Jersey Baseball Old Timers Club and a member of the Pitman Lodge #197 F&AM. He had a kind heart and a caring spirit, as witnessed by his friendly wave to people, as he visited local stores and downtown restaurants. Most of all, Carl enjoyed the company of his family that included his wife, two children, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He always loved family get togethers on birthdays and holidays and fondly remembered trips to Maine and summers in Cape May Carl was the beloved husband of Eunice Norma (nee Roger), devoted and loving father of daughter, Helen (William) Evans, son Roger Carl Simpson, loving grandfather "Grand" of Melissa (John) Poulson (nee Evans), Matthew Evans, and Ethan Evans. He was the adoring and proud great-grandfather "Grandy" of Nicholas Carl and Rebecca Helen Poulson. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Mullica Hill on Monday, April 12 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 51 N. Main St, Mullica Hill, NJ 08062 or to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter, 1200 Delsea Dr., Clayton, NJ 08312.
