Robert Charles Banes, age 73 died on May 29, 2010 at his home in Deptford where he has lived since 2004. Robert was born and raised in Fort Washington, PA. He was a 1958 graduate of Penn State University and earned the commission of LT. Commander in the US Coast Guard. He worked as a Salesman for Abbott Chemicals and then for N.W. Stevenson Co. and lived in Ambler for 14 years. In 1986, he moved to Cambridge, MD, and lived there for 18 years and worked for the State of MD in the Health Department for 16 years as a Supervisor in Ellicott City. In 2004 he moved to the Lakebridge section of Deptford. He was elected to the Board of Trustees where he served as President for the last two years until declining health necessitated his resignation. He is survived by his partner of 45 years, John W. Sankey, Jr. "Jack", his brother Edward "Ned" (Barbara) Banes, sister Helen (Kenneth) Harclerode, many nieces and nephews and his three beloved dogs and two cats. Friends may call on Thursday 7-9pm and Friday 9-10am in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ with a Memorial Service at 10am. Interment George Washington Memorial Park, 80 Stenton Ave, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that a donation be made to your local animal shelter to honor Robert C.
