John Smith Bradley V, "Jack", age 92 died on June 5, 2010 at his home in the Silver Lake section of Clayton where he has lived full time since 1970. He was formerly of Pitman, NJ. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Carolyn Carl Bradley, daughter Carla (Bruce) Evans of Clayton, grandson Jared (Juliane) Evans, granddaughter Lindsay (Jason) Lancaster, great granddaughter Celia Lancaster, brother David (Betts) of Bloomfield, CT. He was born in St. Louis, MO and spent his early days in New Haven, CT. He graduated from Hiram College in 1942 and attended Yale Graduate School and Temple Univ., where he was granted a Master's Degree in Organic Chemistry. He was also a US Navy Veteran. Jack retired from Mobil Research in 1981 after 38 years of service with the title Research Associate. His work included Products Research, primarily in lubricants, a year in Detroit where he provided liason between Mobil's Product Dept. and automotive research groups, and 18 years in Research Planning and Economics. Jack was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Clayton, where he served as Chairman of the Administrative Board for 10 years, chaired the Building Committee that was responsible for rebuilding the Sanctuary after a fire, and also served in many other capacities. Previously he had been an active member of the Pitman United Methodist Church where he was Treasurer for many years and assisted with the children's choir. He was an Emeritus Member of the American Chemical Society, President of the Mobil Management Association at Paulsboro, Past President of the Pitman Kiwanis Club and President of Silver Lake Association for 10 years. With his wife, Jack enjoyed traveling around the US and the world. They also looked forward each year after retirement to avoiding cold winter weather by going to Antigua in the West Indies. Other activities included bowling for several years on championship teams, golf and he also served as a boy scout troop leader. Friends may call on Saturday, June 19 after 10am in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Memorial service will be at 11am. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at a later date in New Haven, CT. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Ranch Hope, PO Box 325, Alloway, NJ 08001.
