Obituary of Alice Jane Helms

Alice Jane Pontefract Helms, age 90, passed away at Pitman Manor on January 30, 2011. Born in Roxborough, Philadelphia, Alice Jane attended local schools, graduating from Roxborough High School. In 1942, she graduated from Episcopal Hospital to become a Registered Nurse. That same year she married Jay Helms, a Methodist minister. Together they moved to Wilmington, Delaware where they served the Newark Union and Kingswood Churches before transferring to New Jersey Annual Conference. After raising her family, Alice Jane served several hospitals as a registered nurse, including Princeton University Clinic and Leesburg Prison. Alice Jane is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Jay K. Helms of Pitman. Also surviving are her beloved sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Barbara Helms of Moorestown, Paul and Susan Helms of Independence, MN and Timothy and Judy Helms of Eatontown. She will be remembered as a loving Mom-Mom to her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Woodruff United Methodist Church. Interment will follow.
