Dr. Josefina A. Pujals (nee Abascal) passed away on March 16, 2011 surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of Enrique J. Pujals. Loving mother of Patricia Pujals Ritter (husband Edward) and Liliana Pujals Hallman (husband Dwayne). Cherished grandmother to Edward (Teddy) Henry Ritter, Michael Edward Ritter and Alexandra Josephine Hallman. Also survived by her devoted sisters Bertangela Feito and Ana Maria Cervera, brother Gerado Abascal and a large loving extended family. Josie was born on April 1, 1933 in Camaguey, Cuba. She married the love of her life Enrique J. Pujals on June 4, 1955. They left Cuba in 1960. Josie received her PhD from Rutgers University, New Brunswick. She published several books on poetry and literary criticism and was an accomplished artist and poet. Josie was an Associate professor of Foreign Language at Rowan University and received her Emeritus Professor before her retirement in the year 2000. Friends may call on Friday 7-9pm in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral mass will be at 10:30am on Saturday in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 161 Pitman Ave, Pitman. Interment private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Pujals Scholarship at Rowan University in her memory.
