It is with great sadness that the Glassboro Police Department announces the passing of Sergeant First Class Gregory Bruynell. We join with his loving wife Cheryl L, sons Greg and Bret and the entire Bruynell family in mourning the loss of our respected brother officer. SFC Bruynell served as a police officer with the Glassboro Police Department for 25 years and in that time he earned the respect of the law enforcement community. He served as the departments senior Platoon Sergeant, he was a former member of the departments K-9 Unit with his patrol canine Tugger, a firearms instructor, Gloucester County Emergency Response Team member and a graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership Program. SFC Bruynell had a multitude of other assignments including, Emergency Management Coordinator, CJIS Terminal Coordinator, Liaison Officer for the Glassboro Housing Authority, the Bentleywoods Apartment Complex and the Hollybush Gardens Community, past president of FOP #108 and member of the Glassboro Fire Dept. SFC Bruynell supervised the departments' Community Policing Unit at its inception, helping refine its protocol and procedures. Throughout his career as a Glassboro Police Officer he earned the respect of all who were fortunate to work with. He was committed to the community that he proudly served, was a devoted husband, father, brother, son and uncle. He also was an avid hunter, skier and traveler. He will be sorely missed by the entire Law enforcement community. "922 off the air" Survived by his wife of 27 years Cheryl L. (nee MacKay), sons Gregory II and Bret, parents Frederick E. and Beverly J. (nee Brown) Bruynell, brothers Steven (Laura), David (Michele), Thomas (Karen), Jon (Diane), Uncle Dave of Kansas City, MO and many nieces, nephews and other family members. Friends may call on Monday 9-11:45am in the First United Methodist Church of Glassboro, 61 N. Academy St, Glassboro, NJ 08028. Memorial service will be at 12 noon.
