I met Mr. Albers when I was 10 years old. Marsha was my best friend from 4th grade on, and I spent many many afternoons at their house.
He used to joke with us all the time about the "chariot races". I don't even remember exactly how the little joke got started, I think maybe he asked Marsha and I where we were going as we were heading out the door on day, and one of us answered "to the chariot races". Since then, every time I saw Mr. Albers we would mention our chariots...how one is faster or better than another etc.; this went on for YEARS.
I hadn't spoken to Mr. Albers in a long time and decided to send a Christmas card a couple of years ago. I got a reply card saying he now has a fleet of the finest chariots.
I laughed so hard I had tears. I couldn't believe he remembered that after all this time.
Gail, you are in my prayers as you go through this huge adjustment. Thank you so much for being a sort of second family to me when I was growing up. You all mean so very much to me.
With Love,
Susan
