George C. Daniels, age 88 passed away peacefully on February 18, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris (nee Hall), sons Craig (Kathy) of Sewell, NJ, and Scott (Wendy) of Travelers Rest, SC. He is also survived by his 5 grandsons: Mike (Jeannie), Mark, Dennis (Sheree), Matt and Greg, and 3 great grandsons: Owen, Matt and Camdon, and his sister Dorothy (Harry) Stone of Barrington, NJ. He was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Daniels. George was a US Army Air Corp Veteran who served in WWII as a member of the 765th Bomb Squadron, 461st Bomb Group. He held the assignments of nose gunner and turret gunner while completing 47 missions for the crew of the B-24 Liberator "Our Baby" earning the honors of American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Air Medal with 3 Oak Clusters and Purple Heart. He was wounded in action when their plane was shot down on the last mission bombing Ploesti, Romania in July, 1944. George was employed as a mailman, insurance salesman and auto leasing manager. His hobbies included golf, fishing and travel, but his passion involved officiating football at the high school and midget levels. He started in the Ed Myer SJ District NJFOA as a varsity official in 1960 and worked through the 1996 season, serving as chapter president for two years. His career was highlighted with assignments to numerous playoff and all-star games, and his induction into the SJ Football Coaches Assoc. Hall of Fame in June of 1994. George lived most of his life in Audubon and spent the last year of his life as a resident at the Pitman Manor where his wife still resides. A private memorial service will be held at the Kelley Funeral Home followed by interment in Camden County Veteran's Cemetery in Camden, NJ.
