Dear Hoffner family,
It is with the utmost grief that I read of the passing of Addie in the Gloucester County Times. I met Addie when she first came to Washington Township to teach Math at the Middle School, and we were at the high school for one of those start of the year pep talks. I don't recall exactly how it happened, those 40 odd years back, but I do know that I offered to lead her to the Wedgewood School where we were on the same team. From then on I WAS THE FOLLOWER AND SHE WAS THE LEADER
I remember how we planned with Marilyn Brahms sometimes over your house on Grandview Ave. in Pitman. We even met in the summer! We were all so dedicated and enjoyed each others' company so much! It was a lot of fun thinking of interesting , worthwhile, hands-on activities for our students. Addie's wisdom, grace, common sense, experience, and sense of humor (I let her borrow my George Carlin albums because your family was a big fan of his) always made me relish our get togethers. We planned team units, kids' yard sales, and many trips for our students. Basically, teaching with Addie was a blast! She became our first team leader and her calm demeanor and contagious smile and laugh made her easy to work with. When I found out that she was going off our team and becoming a guidance counsellor, I was upset to not be able to be with her on a daily basis. Neverthe- less , whenever I had a problem with a student, I sought out her advice. She was still my leader. Then, when she left the district to go to Schalick, I saw her very infrequently.
But then trouble brewed in the Washington School District because some people wanted to do away with the Middle School approach. I ,as one of the leaders of the WTEA, called upon Addie to run to be a member of the Board of Education. We needed someone to serve who was honest, intelligent, and trustworthy. She probably regretted acceding to my request to run, and I am sure she put in endless hours trying to improve our educational system. She always listened to me about how things were going in our school, and then made independent decisions as a board member. I did not agree with a few of her votes, but I knew that they were in the district's best interest, because Addie had made them.
I was thrilled to run into Wayne and her at the Shore Mall not too long ago. She was always warm and friendly, and I had a chance to see her smile again.
I give you my deepest sympathy, Wayne, and the rest of Addie's family. You can be certain that she impacted many lives in a positve way. The world is a better place for having had Addie in it, and I assure you that I and many others share your sadness.
Sincerely,
Bob Krantweiss
P.S. I am a Fels Junior High School graduate, and I know that either Wayne or Addie worked there. No wonder my school experience was so wonderful, and it was even more wonderful when I worked with Adelaide Hoffner!

Dear Mr. Hoffner,
Addie was my supervisor when I began my career at Pittsgrove Middle School. She would send me "forward emails" from time to time. Within the last six months I did hear from her. I shared that I would be retiring
at the end of this school year. Please know that my days of working with her were times of good experiences.
Not only was she very professional in her supervisory position, but she
was also a good human being as
well. I had both personal and professional respect for her. You do not always hold
both types of respect for a
person, however, I recall having both types of respect for Addie. I know that Addie
cherished her family. May
God grant comfort to you with your profound sadness.
Sincerely,
Pat/Patricia Drager
